VAFA Statement: COVID Easing of Restrictions (Update)

Brett Connell – VAFA CEO

Further to yesterday’s announcement please note:

  • This weekend’s matches will be as fixtured: June 19/20 Rd10 of the VAFA season
  • As there are to be no spectators at matches this weekend, we advise that match day functions cannot take place as any attendees would be considered spectators
  • After match functions are also discouraged
  • If clubs wish to provide the opportunity of an after match function for the people required to participate in and facilitate matches (i.e. players, coaches, umpires and volunteers), clubs should refer to the Community Facilities section of the restrictions – specifically listed below and attached
  • Community facilities:
    • Open with a density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm
    • Maximum venue capacity 150 people, including no more than 75 people indoors
    • Maximum group size: 10 people

The VAFA acknowledges spectators not being permitted to attend this weekend’s matches is a major challenge for clubs, and a disappointing outcome for supporters.

However, we respectfully ask the entire VAFA community to respect the protocols implemented by the Victorian Government for this weekend’s games.

These protocols have been put in place with the community’s health and safety the priority.

Getting back on the football field this weekend is a major step towards community sport returning as we know and love it.

We ask that you please play your part and support your Club, the VAFA and Community Football in general, by following the protocols in place to ensure restrictions can be eased for all community sporting activities and events as soon as possible.

Updated Return to Play protocols will be distributed to clubs once they are provided to AFL Victoria by the state government.

We thank the VAFA community for your assistance and understanding.
