Senior Coach Nick Bourke to depart Como Park
Old Geelong Football Club Senior Coach Nick Bourke will depart the club at season’s end after a mutual decision to part ways.
Bourke arrived at the club at the start of 2016 as the Director of Coaching. Prior to this his impressive resume had included being the President and a Board Member of the VAFA as well as coaching the Big V for eight years. In amongst that he was also a very successful player and coach.
After one year as Director of Coaching (including overseeing the 2016 Division 1 Premiership), Bourke then took the reigns as Senior Coach in 2017 and played a leading role last year in the drought-breaking promotion to Premier B for the first time since 1960.
“The Old Geelong Football Club will forever be indebted to Nick for his efforts as Senior Coach over the past three seasons,” Old Geelong Football Club, James Wright said.
“Nick was as the forefront of our Premiership in 2016, our two years in Premier C and finally our breakthrough to Premier B. Anyone lucky enough to be at the 2018 Finals Series to see him coach will understand his influence over that finals campaign, and indeed our Club cannot be understated.”
With Nick’s blessing the club will immediately begin its search for its next Senior Coach so that it has the strongest opportunity to secure the best available person for 2020 and beyond.
Nick’s final match in charge will be the Round 18 match away against Caulfield Grammarians.
