Netball Scores Round 2

Prahran Netball Club

Despite still missing a few key players due to seemingly never-ending international getaways, the 7 of us from last week took to the court once again. With our new sense of purpose in showing the Bow Tots what we were really made of, we went out hard in the first quarter with the plan of getting ahead early. It was not until the third quarter however, after some slight position adjustments that our game finally came together. Thanks to some incredible ‘out of nowhere’ intercepts from our new recruit Grace, and some sensational ‘turn arounds’ down the defence end from Emily Fyffe and Annabel Rafferty, we were able to creep into a close lead.

At three quarter time we were only one up, but decidedly I announced that we were in fact three down and that we really needed to fire things up. With the idea of yet another close loss not far from our thoughts, a newfound energy appeared and we increased the pressure down the court, getting turnovers where we could. Ally Kirkwood and Emma Szepe proved a strong duo down in the goal ring with “swish” sounds occurring more often than not as the ball sailed through the ring, furthering our lead unbeknownst to Lucy Codyre who was certain that we were still a few down. Her determination to gain a lead saw her intercept some incredible passes and the ball made swift movements down the midcourt.

As the final whistle and bell signalled the end of the match a combination of excited and confused expressions showed amongst the OG’s, unsure if we’d done enough. For those who had kept score from my not so truthful ‘three down’ remark, they were certain that we had again lost by one goal. Yet, due to our undying energy and shot gun approach in the final quarter we had gained a 6 goal lead with a result of 34-28.

OGS Red had a good start to the season with only a narrow loss by 2 goals. Even the girls were just getting back into it, Julia Clarke and Zoe Gorell starred in defence with many great intercepts and rebounds. Charlotte Kay, Emme Richardson and Caroline Bett were very solid in centre court feeding to Arabella and Emily in the ring. The girls are determined to get back on court next week and put a win on the board.

24-19 win
