MEN'S THIRDS CO-COACHES CONFIRMED FOR SEASON 2019
Following the announcement of Colby O’Brien and Jason Barry as co-coaches of the men’s Reserves for the 2019 season, the Old Geelong Football Club is pleased to confirm that Toby Blatchford has re-committed to coaching the men’s Thirds next year and will be joined in the coaches box by Club inspiration Rhett Nicholas.
Toby takes the reigns again after taking the Thirds to a fifth-place finish in 2018 whilst also managing to play nine matches himself.
Whilst injury limited Rhett to just two matches in 2018 it is the work that he has done founding and leading 12 For Twelve that has inspired everyone at the Club and in the wider community. From the start of this year he lead a team in twelve half marathons and raised over $100,000 for Beyond Blue to change the conversation around mental health.
Club President James Wright was thrilled to have both of these popular men commit to the Club in a formal capacity for season 2019.
“The Club is absolutely thrilled that Toby and Rhett will steer our Thirds in 2019. In 2018, Toby brought the perfect balance of professionalism and fun to our Thirds which saw them narrowly miss finals.” Wright said.
“With the Club entering Premier B, the standards increase again and we have the utmost confidence that Rhett and Toby are the right coaches to take our Thirds forward. The Club is also very excited to partner with 12 for Twelve again in 2019 and support the amazing achievements that Rhett and 12 For Twelve have accomplished so far ”
Toby and Rhett will officially commence their roles when pre-season training commences on Monday evening and please stay tuned for further exciting coaching announcements for the women’s teams.
