Vale David Hooper

The Old Geelong Cricket Club is devastated by the loss of David Hooper, who sadly passed away on 9th September 2016 after a long battle with depression and schizophrenia, just 7 days shy of his 39th birthday.

David played 27 games for the Old Geelong Cricket Club and won the best clubman award for the season 2015/16. He made a huge difference to our club volunteering to help when ever it was needed and was happy to play whatever role was required on match day.

He had a knack of taking extremely freakish catches and with the bat he did not muck around playing aggressive and entertaining shots from the first ball he faced.

David's condition meant that some social situations could be terrifying for him and so while it often took great courage for him to be in a team environment he constantly turned up and put the team first.

I have heard from a number of our players who described him as the "heart and soul" of the Old Geelong Cricket Club 2nd XI.

David was a very humble, generous, kind and courageous person and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Roly Imhoff
Old Geelong Cricket Club President
