OGFC ANNOUNCES CO-CAPTAINS FOR 2019
The Old Geelong Football Club men’s Seniors will have co-captains for the first time since 2005 with 2018 Captain Cal Wood (above right) joined in the top role by Scott Dixon (above left).
Club President James Wright was quick to congratulate the pair as the Club enters Premier B for the first time since 1960.
"As the Club enters into Premier B for the men for the first time since 1960, we are very confident that Scott’s excellent leadership on and off the field will complement Cal as we embark on the most important season for our Club in half a century," Wright said.
Senior Coach Nick Bourke acknowledged that the Club was in strong hands with both Cal and Scott as co-captains.
“Scott compliments Cal’s leadership well and I’m confident that the result will see both players ‘fly the flag’ for us throughout the season," Bourke said.
Season 2019 marks Cal’s eleventh season at the OGs and after 183 matches he is thrilled that Scott will join him in the leading the Club forward.
"I’m really excited to be sharing the captaincy with Scotty in 2019. You wouldn’t find a player in the Club who doesn’t look up to Scott as a teammate and genuinely like him as a bloke and I think he’s the perfect fit to help lead our exciting group of young players as we tackle the enormous challenge of Premier B," Wood said.
After playing eight matches last year, including a strong finish to the season, Scott says he was really looking forward to this year and the challenges that come with extra leadership.
"I feel incredibly privileged to be able to captain this great club with Cal in 2019. I'm very excited to help lead the Old Geelong Football Club through the up's and down's of this season," Dixon said.
Cal and Scott join U19 co-captains Jack Roe and Bailey Austin as confirmed leaders for the Club in 2019 and stay tuned later in the week for some exciting captaincy announcement for the women's teams.
