O'BRIEN & BARRY JOIN THE OGS COACHING RANKS
Old Geelong Football Club is excited to announce that popular Club stalwarts Colby O’Brien and Jason Barry have been appointed co-coaches of the men’s Reserves for the 2019 season.
Colby moves straight into a coaching role after a highly distinguished career at the OGs where he played 213 matches from 2005-2018 including the 2005 and 2016 men’s Seniors Premierships as well as taking home four best and fairest awards.
‘Jase’ was also a member of the 2016 men’s Seniors Premiership side and despite only playing in the hoops for four seasons he has very quickly become part of the OGs fabric.
Club President James Wright said the experience and popularity of both men would be an important asset to the OGs as the Club enters Premier B for the first time since 1960.
“To have such well respected and highly regarded members of our playing group decide to transition to coaching is very exciting for the Club,” Wright said.
“Along with coaching our Reserves they will play a vital role in the development and welfare of our players being so well connected to them from their recent playing duties.”
Both O’Brien and Barry were quick to point out how excited they are to join the Old Geelong Football Club coaching department.
“The Club has been fantastic to me since joining in 2005, and I simply love the place. I’m very much looking forward to being on the other side as a coach for the all-conquering Reserves and ensuring that the players are putting pressure on the senior side for selection,” O’Brien said.
“The Old Geelong Football Club has been a massive part of my life since walking in the door in 2015. I’m very excited to help Colby coach the Reserves and embed a professional and winning culture to put us in good stead for the 2019 season in Premier B,” Barry said.
Colby and Jase will officially commence their roles when pre-season training commences on Monday 19 November.
