“Where’s me bag?”

June 4th, 2010

After a week off to recover from the extravaganza that is the Ladies Lunch/Miss Ogs weekend, Oggerybloggery is back.

Back in time to watch McEvoy kick nine goals last weekend, being the biggest bag kicked in the seniors this season. Great to see the bag of goals still around in footy (although Oggerybloggery should note that the offical position of the coaching staff is that all teams want a spread of goalkickers… boring.)

It bought to mind some of the previous bags kicked at the OGS and for the 2nd time in this year’s blOG, the name of MVW springs to mind (see blOG titled “Hey Mcfly”). Vickos holds the seniors record for the biggest bag kicked in a match of 18. This bag was kicked against Monash back in 2004 when Vicko had a mullet. And a moustache. And a woolen jumper.

It is believed that the Reserves (or possibly Under 19s) record for biggest bag is held by Danny O’Brien (brother of current head of fitness Ray O’Brien) who kicked 14 in a game. Danny went on to appear on the Footy Show - Marstermind, showing that not only has he kicked more goals than Ray he also generally knows more about football than him too.

Clubbies records are not clear, although there is hope that with LES finding form and lining up at centre-half-forward this week a new record awaits. Lessssssssssssss.

Goalkickers, Oggerybloggery salutes you and the way you take all the glory for the hard work the team around you has put in.

Miss Ogs: A simple contest for simple contestants…

May 20th, 2010

The beauty of Miss Ogs, apart from the obvious, is that it’s simple. Evening wear. Swimwear. Lingerie. It’s been the same for as long as anyone can remember and that’s why it works.

Maybe do a bit of a dance, props are fun, and of course involve the judges. But that’s about it. Over the years there has been talk of changing the format, maybe modernizing it a bit, but if it’s good enough for Donald Trump it’s good enough for the OGS.

We don’t want the contestants answering questions and looking like idiots. They will generally manage to look like idiots by themselves.

So Miss Ogs is upon us again. For a brief history of, see last years post titled, ironically, “a brief history of”. The contestants are ready… are you?

  1. Nick O’Hare
  2. Gus Perry
  3. Andy Power
  4. Nick Betts.

Who will be crowned Miss Ogs 2010? Be at Como on Saturday night to find out…

Partying like it’s (9 years before) 1999

May 6th, 2010

After recovering from the McFly moment last week, Oggerybloggery was ready to settle into a weekend at the OGS in the here and now. Perfect timing for the 1990 and 2005 double premiership reunions then.

It was a night of reflection and it was noted by all that 1990 was a good year for the world in general and a very good year for the OGS.

The USA and the Soviet Union signed a treaty to end chemical weapon production -  John Manton signed for the OGS.

Macaulay Culkin made it big as captain of kids movies with Home Alone - Cullen Gunn made it big as captain of the club.

Nelson Mandela won freedom after 27 years behind bars - The OGS won a seniors premiership after 24 years (at the Nugget Bar).

There are various other examples of what happened in 1990 on a global stage and on the stage that is Como Park, but Oggerybloggery has spent too much time in the past and is looking forward to the weekend ahead:

Big matches for Seniors, Clubbies and Unders to bounce back and important that the Ressies put another win on the board.

G. Fawcett kicking it out from defence in 1990 prior to his ice-skating celebrations.

Fawc in flightKurt Browning

Kurt Browning kicking it out in vinyl pants at the 1990 Olympics, prior to  celebrating his ice skating gold medal.

hey Mcfly

April 30th, 2010

Oggerybloggery witnessed a Back to the Future moment last weekend and has spent the rest of the week grappling with the time/space continuum that has baffled scientists for decades - if you went back in time and spoke to your younger self, would your actions then change the course of life for your younger self so that you would never get to the point that you could go back in time as your older self and speak to your younger self?

The McFly moment was seeing Mark Vickers-Willis, a 14-year veteran of the Club grace the field at Lady Como for the Clubbies and promptly kick ten goals, helping the Clubbies to a 98 point win. The match immediately after saw Cal Wood, playing for the under 19s and in only his second year at the club, kick 9 goals, helping the Unders to a 150 point win.

So I guess Oggerbloggery’s question is… what did Vicko say to Cal before the game?

Return of the blOG

April 20th, 2010

Well, after a year in exile Oggerybloggery is back, referring to itself only in the third person and commenting on all things OGS in 2010.

blOGS this season will occur weekly, on a Monday or Tuesday, critiquing the week that was and making outlandish forecasts for the week ahead.

When Oggerbloggery isn’t up to the task of producing a blOG Lady Como will chip in with a female’s perspective.

Feedback for both Lady Como and Oggerybloggery is welcome but will be ignored and harsh criticism is embraced.

And what a start to the season it has been. With a couple of decent results on the field, Saturday night saw the Como Season Launch - Double Denim. See here for confirmation that Double Denim is back.

And while you’re at it, why don’t you join OGbook where you can see photos proving that none of the Oggers or Oggettes paid any attention to the strict rules of wearing denim and denim. Join OGbook at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6215691383

Stay tuned for the next posting - Oggerybloggery putting the OGS into blOGS.

Miss Ogs: A short history of

May 15th, 2009

A bit like the chicken or the egg, it’s hard to know what came first; Miss OGS or the Ladies Lunch. What is known is that you can’t have one and not the other, and these days the entire day and night is one of the biggest events on the OGS social calender.

Listed below are some of the recent  highlights of Miss OGS in an attempt to pin down just why the men of the oggery will, once a year, dress like the women of the oggery.  Please feel free to add your own highlights to the list, or perhaps any suggestions as to what may/should/shouldn’t be seen this year…

2003 -  The first ever sighting of the Fairbairn-Shuffle, and although Chugga looked the part, it wasn’t enough to be crowned Miss OGS. Long legs and an uncanny ability to balance on the tiny bar table was enough to see Big Rocks Taylor take the title.

2004 -  Winner - unsure. Please comment below if you believe you won the Miss OGS 2004 crown. The 2004 contest is far better remembered for Ricky the Bomb sliding on his knees the full length of the carpet runway, resulting in the worse carpet burns in living memory. Each week for the remainder of the season he was required to tape his injuries from the Miss OGS contest.

2005 - T. Betts had clearly planned his show: in a Miss OGS first props were used. For the evening wear he scored an unprecedented 30/30 and was eventually crowned Miss OGS 2005.

2006 - Saw ’The Mole’ and H-Leg tie the title. It was the first time the title had been tied and although mud-wrestling was suggested as a tie-breaker this idea was quickly abandoned.  Very quickly.

2007 - Although Branners made an entrance to remember as the Lady in Red, and the Hawk-Walk was a clear crowd pleaser, it was R. Bell whose performance will always be seared in the memory: a lot of leather, a mask and a whip. Nothing more needs to be said.

2008 - Jacky Mez will always be remembered as the first official under 19s contestant but it was Goldy, possibly the oldest contestant since Barrel (in 2003), who took the crown.

2009 - The contestants are finalised: Dinger, Fish, Guss and the Rat. Who will Goldy hand the crown to? Who will wow the crowd but go home empty handed? And finally, who will this year be the contestant that forgets that a G-String doesn’t cover all that it should?

Be at Club Como saturday night to find out.

Disclaimer: The above dates and/or events may not be entirely accurate record of previous contests. For the dignity of all previous contestants photos and videos will not be uploaded in relation to this posting.

Slide, Release, fist pump….STRIKE!

May 13th, 2009

There’s nothing like the sweet sound of high fives and skittled pins, particularly on a Tuesday. Whether you’ve got a head the size of a bowling ball (see above), can roll left handed or can’t get a score above 80, there’s something special about a sport that has air-conditioning for your hands and where hippo-like humans can be world champions. The blue and white army was on display. The jury is still out as to which venue enjoyed the most high fives or fist pumps but one thing is for sure…inspiration can come from the most unlikely places. Who was the Big ‘Ern’ McCracken of last night and who was Roy Munson? If you’ve seen Kingpin you know what we’re talkin’ about. If you haven’t see the clip below;

The OGS, OGGERY, BLOGGERY - we’re live!

May 4th, 2009

After much tumult, excitement and mirth,
Finally the OGS has its BLOGGERY birth,
It’s a virtual space for the pleasure of the club,
A centre of banter, your online hub.
It may be a freak goal you kicked in the game,
Or remorse on a Sunday following late night shame,
This club runs thick, the friendships are true,
Here share your stories of the white and the blue!
Some light entertainment…
